Coastal Cleanup 2010 Results

At last year's California Coastal Cleanup Day event in San Diego County, 8,800 volunteers came out to help clean up local coastal and inland communities. These dedicated volunteers removed 200,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from 165 miles of shoreline. Plus, over 3,000 of our friends across the border collected 64,000 pounds in Tijuana, Tecate, Rosarito and Ensenada. Together we were over 12,000 volunteers in this interconnected region!

California Coastal Cleanup Day is organized locally by San Diego Coastkeeper and I Love A Clean San Diego and statewide by the California Coastal Commission and it takes place throughout California in 48 counties. This year, 75,000 participants removed nearly 1 million pounds of debris from 1,700 miles of California coastal and inland areas.

We collect valuable data from all of our cleanup sites during Coastal Cleanup Day! This data helps us understand how we can better prevent litter.  Instead of using paper data cards, download Ocean Conservancy's new mobile data collection app, Clean Swell! Available on iPhone and Android devices!
